Tertius Chandler : ウィキペディア英語版 | Tertius Chandler Tertius Chandler (1915–2000) from Berkeley, California was a historian and author. ==Author==
Chandler was an author and historian who lectured on history, economics, and religion, especially about Moses. Chandler's most successful book in terms of recognition by scholars is ''Four Thousand Years of Urban Growth'' (1987).〔Stephen K. Sanderson, Civilizations and world systems: studying world-historical change, 1995, p. 209〕〔http://teacherweb.ftl.pinecrest.edu/snyderd/MWH/readings/Urban/City%20Pop%20-%20History.pdf〕 The book includes estimates of the population of cities since ancient times. Although the book has been widely quoted,〔Patrick Manning, Migration in world history, 2005, p. 14〕〔Robert Marks, The origins of the modern world: a global and ecological narrative from the fifteenth to the twenty-first century, 2007, p.40〕 urban historians have criticized Chandler's superficial and uncritical use of sources, leading to unreliable population estimates for many past cities.〔Jan de Vries, European urbanization 1500-1800, 1984, p. 18〕〔Paul Bairoch, Cities and economic development: From the dawn of history to the present, 1988, pp.116-117〕
